If you are an aggressive player you can use the strategy of continuation bets. In continuation bets you make a bet when there is a flop in the game. You can then take control of the game by initiating a raise in the hand. This will confuse other players, wondering about whether you have a power card or a monster hand. They will also try to check the raise. You can win the game by laying out your bet with the last card at the end. This also helps in creating a dilemma for the other players in deciding whether to raise, fold, or call.
On the other hand, if you are more of a passive player, you can use the strategy of waiting and watching. Instead of getting into confrontations, you wait for the right opportunity of others’ wrong moves and win by monster hands. Winning really just comes to you with adequate practice.
Speaking of home poker games reminds me of good old days when we used to have weekend games over dinner at one of our friends’ place. It was decided in advance who will host the game and then the time of the game. There were some free games and some games with cash involved.
